About your Instructor

About Denise Denise a respected Yoga teacher who has trained and teaches ashtanga, yin yoga, vinyasa flows, dynamic yoga, constructive yoga, along with meditation and sound healing. Through Yoga she aims to clearly explain the what, why’s and how’s of asana, meditation and yogic philosophy making the practice approachable for everyone, of every level and of every walk of life. She shares this knowledge with her students and other teachers so they can practice and teach wisely, sustainably and mindfully always emphasising how to implement the practice off the mat in day to day life.

Denise never felt destined to become a yoga teacher and discovered the path almost by accidentally, it was during a difficult time in her life and taking some time out when her sister handed her a book and then took her to a yoga class that her journey began. Her first love was hot yoga, the practice was in its infancy at the time just arriving in the uk and to her home city of Liverpool at the time and the physical challenges of a rigorous and extremely sweaty yoga practice initially provided Denise exactly what she needed, but it is said it doesn’t matter what brings you to the mat once you are there the magic happens and it was yoga’s philosophical concepts and their application everyday life that were and still remain are her driving interest beyond the asana practice.

Then in 2005 after the a few months of on and off numbness and pain Denise found herself in hospital, paralysis in her left arm, left leg and both feet and hands she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. It was through this that the road to self healing and ultimately towards becoming a yoga teacher began. Initially taking a 200hr Yoga Alliance teacher training course to deepen her understanding of the practice and to some how finding herself at the front of a class when a teacher was ill.

Denise went on to teach in studious within Merseyside and Lancashire developing classes and yoga retreats both in the uk and abroad and then came the natural progression towards 500Hr Yoga Alliance teacher training. She also trained with Norman Blair to qualify as a advanced Yin yoga teacher. Her love of yoga continues to grow and through her own challenges with both multiple sclerosis and its development her practice and teaching has evolved towards sustainability and accessibility as this was where leaf yoga was born.

Denise has spent years researching poses and alternative poses to help make yoga accessible to all from teaching chair yoga and meditation to sufferers of dementia to teaching vigorous flows to sports professionals she believes yoga is for everyone the most difficult bit is just turning up. Yoga doesn’t judge us so why do we judge our selves.
